2008 CHARDONNAY CARNEROS
The 2008 vintage in the Carneros began with the worst Spring frosts in over thirty years. This reduced the crop significantly in all Northern California premium winegrape growing regions. The summer season was fairly typical. Even though the crop was smaller, the fruit ripened mid-to-late season. This is a very desirable set of conditions for producing top quality Chardonnay.
This vintage exemplifies the style of wine we try to achieve at SOLITUDE. Layers of oak complement the tropical fruit flavors of the Carneros appellation. Our wine is dry, full and very rich but retains refreshing acidity to keep the wine well balanced. Traditional Burgundian techniques of barrel fermentation, less stirring and 100% malo-lactic fermentation increase complexity and richness. The wine drinks beautifully in its youth and will gain aromatic and flavor complexity with additional age.

This is my twenty-first vintage of making SOLITUDE Chardonnay. Over this period the wine has developed a reputation for consistency and value. As always our grapes came from Sangiacomo Vineyards just south of the Town of Sonoma. Im extremely pleased with this vintage because it exhibits the classic characters of the Carneros. There are rich tropical fruit aromas, with smooth mouth-filling flavors and a crisp finish. Enjoy!
